Liberia's young people are leaving the land that could employ them
Fertile land, a young population and almost no route between the two: agriculture is treated as what you leave, not what you build.
Why it matters
Farming reads as the past to a generation that has watched it done without inputs, credit, storage or a market — and so the skills, the land and the young people drift apart. What would change it is not a campaign but evidence: a young person running a plot that works, with an agronomist beside them, documented in their own words.
What we intend to do
- Youth-run demonstration plots inside Operation Sow a Seed, with mentorship from a member.
- Every plot documented as a story, in Kpelle, Bassa or English — whichever the grower speaks.
The first story against this issue
A young farmer outside Monrovia or Gbarnga who is making it work and has never been asked how.
If that is you, or someone you know, write to us. It will be recorded only with their consent, in their own voice, and given back to them — that is the standard.
